In this class, students will learn basic puppetering, sewing and sculpture techniques to make their own stop motion puppet short films. Stop motion is an animation technique that physically manipulates an object so that it appears to move on its own. The object is moved in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a fast sequence. Students will design and sew their own character, like a pokemon or legoman, or they can sculpt it. Incorporating sewing and sculpting allows students to explore multiple methods of creating stop motion. The end result is a movie that students can share with friends and family!
